Every time I try to load the software I get a disk read error.

In the long term the symptoms you are describing could be a technical fault developing in your PS2 console with your laser moving out of alignment. It would not be caused by the use of our discs but due to the programming of our discs they can be the first discs to detect this problem. Two things we can recommend is getting a cleaning kit and cleaning your PS2 console, alternatively, you may want to try re-positioning your PS2 console vertically/horizontally which could help read the disc. If you are still having problems we would advise calling Playstation technical support for further help.
